This worked 3x so maybe there is glitch somewhere. So out of frusperation one evening I 'pressed any key' when the screen went black and the installer started like designed. The only fix that I did try was changing a setting in the BIOS from Windows to Linux then when that didn't work back to Windows. There was a G3 that I was working on and attempted to load various linux CDs and Windows Server 2003 with the same issue.
So what exactly was the fix? Maybe its lunch slowing my brain down.lol but I didn't follow. Either of those would require a new drive.EDIT: you might also check this out. If a premade one boots but not a burnt one, then the drive is probably either too old or worn out. If the DVD drive (it IS a DVD DRIVE, right?) is listed as the first boot option, and pressing F12 (or whatever F key) doesn't bring up a boot menu for you to choose the DVD drive to boot from, then it is either the connection, or it is the drive itself.i tend to go with the cheaper of two options first myself (the data cable), which you can get on eBay for less than $5.if that doesn't fix things, then it is likely the drive is not reading bootable area properly.one other thing to try is to see if a premade (storebought, not burnt) DVD will boot.
